Observations from the World of Sports: Feb. 7

Daily, I'll just share some of the things I observed during yesterday's games.

-You all remember Siena? The stunning team from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference? Well, it appears this team, who lost impact coach Fran McCaffery to Iowa, will not be joining us in the NCAA Tournament this year. However, Ryan Rossiter keeps on rolling. In a tough loss to Loyola (MD), Rossiter led the team in points, rebounds, and assists with an extremely impressive 23-20-5. He was also the only player on Siena to record a steal and a block. His 20 rebounds also set the Siena all-time rebounding record.

-Missouri looks pretty legit to me, to my chagrin. They played a great first half against Kansas, with possessions that included a good shot selection, the ability to score in the halfcourt offense (which isn't usually Mizzou's style), and solid defense against the Jayhawks. Unfortunately, that all crumbled in the second half, which I couldn't watch because Tori made me watch Skins. What we do for our significant others.

-West Virginia's offense really needs some help. It took a career high 19 points from Deniz Kilici to keep them in the game, and their bench actually outscored their starters 34-32. Bench production is indeed nice, but your starters really need more production.

-In the NBA, Carmelo Anthony became the first player to rack up 50 points without notching a single dime this season. This was the first time this has been done since Michael Redd accomplished this on November 11, 2006. The last 3 of 4 players to do this have been on the losing team.

hahaha....LOVE IT. I take it you can't have a DVR at XU. If so, get one.
